{"id":1470,"date":"2011-11-20T20:35:51","date_gmt":"2011-11-20T20:35:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markinchchurch.org.uk\/?p=1470"},"modified":"2011-11-20T20:38:25","modified_gmt":"2011-11-20T20:38:25","slug":"remembrance-sunday-at-markinch-war-memorial-photographs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.markinchchurch.org.uk\/?p=1470","title":{"rendered":"Remembrance Sunday at Markinch War Memorial &#8211; Photographs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Markinch\u2019s fallen servicemen and women and those serving in current conflicts were remembered and honoured in a moving services on Remembrance Sunday.<br \/>\nThe fresh grey morning saw the area surrounding Markinch\u2019s war memorial filled with more than two hundred solemn participants &#8211; some in uniform and some plain-clothed. This emotional service and two minutes\u2019 silence was led by the parish minister the Revd. Alex Forsyth, pipers Hayley &amp; Warren Gibson and an ensemble from Tullis Russell Mills Band.<br \/>\nAfter paying tribute to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice the minister invited the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Mr Robert Balfour, to place the first wreath on the war memorial.<br \/>\nCommunity Wreath Laying followed, with local organisations including, the Territorial Army, the Royal British Legion, Markinch Primary School, Co-op Funeralcare, Fife Police, Fife Fire &amp; Rescue Service and representatives from a host of other local groups and organisations setting a sea of red poppies at the base of the memorial.<br \/>\nThe Remembrance Sunday church service followed in Markinch Parish Church.\u00a0 Commenting on the day, the minister the Revd. Alex Forsyth said, \u201cI see Remembrance Sunday as a significant day in focusing the life of our nation.
