Last Sunday we lit the first candle on our Advent\u00a0 Crown, the candle of hope.\u00a0 Today is the second Sunday of Advent, and we light the candle of peace that recalls the peace we have in Christ.
\nThe prophet Isaiah called the\u00a0 Messiah, “the Prince of Peace.”\u00a0 Through John the Baptist and the prophets before him, God asks us to prepare our hearts, minds and souls to receive the \u201cPrince of Peace.\u201d Our hope is in God, and in his son Jesus Christ and he himself is our peace.\u00a0
\nWe light this candle to recall the peace we have in Christ, to remember that he himself is our peace and he brings peace to all who put their faith and trust in him.<\/p>\n

The second candle is then lit by one of the children.<\/em><\/p>\n

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. \u2026 Jesus said, \u201cPeace I leave with you; my peace I give you. Let not your hearts be troubled neither be afraid.\u00a0

\nWe pray:
\n<\/em>Loving God, we thank you for the peace you give us in and through Jesus Christ.\u00a0
\nHelp us prepare our hearts to receive Him.\u00a0
\nBless our praise and our prayers and our life and work as a church and enable us to live in peace.\u00a0
\nThrough Jesus Christ our Lord who taught us when we pray to say … The Lord\u2019s Prayer<\/em><\/p>\n
