There was a record attendance at Markinch\u2019s War Memorial for the Remembrance service on the morning of\u00a0Sunday 11th November.\u00a0 <\/span>Over 300 people stood around the town\u2019s war memorial silently remembering the town\u2019s war dead.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this the year of 70th<\/sup>\u00a0 anniversary year of <\/span>El Alamein and the 60th<\/sup> <\/span>anniversary\u00a0 of the involvement of <\/span>The Black Watch in Korea, local Black Watch veterans remembered their fallen comrades.\u00a0 <\/span>They also prayed for those serving with the regiment in Afghanistan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Commenting on the day, the minister at Markinch, the Rev Alex Forsyth said, <\/span>\u201cRemembrance Sunday was once about the fallen of the two world wars. <\/span>It now includes all those who served in the armed forces and were killed, <\/span>often in their youth, in the recent conflicts in the Falklands, Northern Ireland, <\/span>Iraq, Kosovo and Afghanistan.\u00a0<\/span>Remembrance Sunday is a difficult day for veterans as they r<\/span>emember those who died and\u00a0 the families and loved ones left behind.\u201d<\/span>
