The Union of Markinch and Thornton Churches

The Basis of Union was approved by our Session last Monday, therefore we are now in a position to advise the next stage in the process. At the next meetings of the Ministries Committees of Presbytery and the Central Church, the union will be formalised. It is expected that this may take until the start of April, when we will then be given authority to start the vacancy procedures. We will not be allowed to start vacancy proceedings and call a minister until the union with Thornton takes place, so it is important that this runs smoothly.

In the meantime, the congregation has to vote on the union. There will be formal intimations 2 weeks prior to the actual voting day giving the  congregation plenty notice of the vote. It is likely that voting will take place in 3-4 weeks. A ballot paper will be made available on the day, with a  simple ‘For’ or ‘Against’ vote.

John Wood, Session Clerk

Christian Aid Week 11th – 17th May  During the past years we at Markinch Parish Church have supported CA and this year we will once again be promoting the need of others less fortunate than us. Christian Aid Week 2014: give people a future without fear. War tears lives apart. We can help put them back together. For a growing number of people across the world, the horror of war is part of daily life.
There will be a Coffee Morning in aid of Christian Aid on Thursday 15th May 2014, posters will be ready for distribution soon.  A Quiz Night is also organised for Friday 16th May 2014 in the Church Hall.  Books continue to be on sale for CA and we recycle ink cartridges and toners for CA. With our efforts, many more people can look forward to a future free from poverty.
