Markinch and Thornton Parish Church
Worship

Worship

The Church is its people. Together we make up the Body of Christ. While buildings play an important role in how we worship God, first and foremost it is people coming together that is most important.

Christians have long believed that Sunday is the first (not the last) day of the week, and as such we start each new week by gathering together to worship God. Most Sundays we have a service in St Drostan’s, Markinch at 10.30am, and on the second and fourth Sunday of the month we have a shorter service in Thornton Church at 9am, although at certain times in the year we hold joint services to bring our whole community together. We usually celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion on the last Sunday of the month.

Four times a year we have joint Holy Communion services in Markinch St Drostan’s Church at 10.30am, in 2024 the remaining dates for these are:

  • Trinity Sunday 26 May 2024
  • Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost 25 August 2024
  • Advent One 1 December 2024

Our Sunday services in Markinch are live streamed online on our YouTube page for those who cannot be onsite: https://www.youtube.com/@markinchandthorntonchurch

Sign up for our weekly email to receive the weekly bulletin which has our Orders of Service and all the Intimations for the week.

Throughout the year we hold one of services such as at Christmas and Easter, and join with our partner churches across the Glenrothes area.

Church Flowers

Providing church flowers is your opportunity to provide a memorial for a loved one on an anniversary or to provide a special floral recognition for a family member or friend to mark a particular occasion.
After the service the sanctuary flowers are rearranged into smaller bouquets and delivered to folk in the community who are in the hospital or are at home and in need of a little cheer.
The Flower Book can be found on the table in the vestibule. Your words dedication should be passed on to Ken Wilkie if you wish it to be included in the Sunday Bulletin .
