Markinch Parish Church will shortly be forming a union with Thornton Parish Church.
Following the retirement of Rev Alex Forsyth, Presbytery advised that it would be necessary for us to form the union with Thornton in order to gain permission to call a new minister on an unrestricted tenure.
The new ‘Markinch and Thornton Parish Church of Scotland’ will retain the two church buildings and services will be held each week in both churches. The new minister, when appointed. will oversee the larger, stronger parish.
We now need to complete the formality of a vote on the union, overseen by Presbytery. This vote will take place on Sunday 23rd March in the church at the end of the service.
